THE BALLROOM-01.jpg
Margaret Ballroom.jpg

When I first walked into the house and saw this room the potential took my breath away. It was truly the reason I bought the house. I call it the Ballroom because it’s so grand in nature and I imagine has witnessed many a gala over it’s 115 year history. I like to describe my style as “Rock n Roll Lodge meets High Hollywood Glamour” and for me this room embodies that. It was designed like the lobby of a chic hotel because I love to entertain and party but the room still has to have many functional purposes for everyday living. It has a marble bar with a striking floor to ceiling stone slab wall behind, a pool table, a grand piano and multiple areas to sit including my Emma J Shipley custom sectional. It took a tremendous amount of vision to create this, as you can see from the before… the paneled wood wall was a tired musty brown and refinishing it in a high gloss black lacquer totally transformed it.
This is my favorite room in the house.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I am all about drama, the good kind, and I wanted a stand out feature wall that set the tone for the room and still let everything else shine. I contacted Rebel Walls and they custom create to the dimensions of your space. It is so fast to ship and incredibly easy to apply. Joe did this alone as you can see for the video below.

It’s all in the details… Joe even went the extra mile and took a sharpie to the outlet covers and custom drew in the design to disguise them. There’s a reason we call him Super Joe!

RESTORE THAT FLOOR

This home is a true restoration and the original floors from the 1940’s needed a lot of love. The floors are solid mahogany and even have hand carved dovetail joints. It was essential we worked with an expert to refinish them and restore then to their former glory. We worked with Brian from Grain Flooring who suggested a dark dramatic stain to work with the wood window frames and black paneled feature wall.

THE VAULT LIGHTING

Lighting creates the entire mood of room and I like statement pieces that are conversation starters. The Vault has stunning fixtures that are affordable but look like a million bucks.

ADD SOME COLOR & WHIMSEY

Color, print and whimsey is signature to my personality and has always been in the DNA of every room I design. I discovered an incredibly talented British designer Emma J Shipley and her fabrics are simply magical. Emma takes inspiration from myths, legends and the unique beauty of the natural world. The result is simply stunning. Emma’s fabrics are distributed by Clarke and Clarke with a worldwide reach. I chose the Caspian Velvet in Teal for my large sectional and paired with a solid emerald green velvet, for my drapes I paired the Sylph Silk in the color Money with the Lavico Nero sheers. I picked a striking monochrome print to contrast.

Check out this video as I share with you my fabulous find; the magical and whimsical Emma J Shipley and her incredible fabrics!

Margaret Drapes.jpg

My windows are floor to ceiling and I chose a very rich dramatic green silk and paired with a marble look sheer and they look truly stunning. As my room has many functions it is really important that I can easily set the tone for a party or movie night easily so using motorized shades is very important. Somfy make it so simple, they are easy to use and recharge. I also worked with Jonathan and Abraham from Glamour Decorating to custom create and install the drapery and Somfy System and couldn’t be happier with the finished look.

I set the bar high when designing mine! I love the dramatic bars you see in a luxury hotel lobby and wanted to recreate that in my ballroom with soaring floor to ceiling slab as a backdrop with a monochrome contrast to add to the effect. I worked with Dal Tile to create this breathtaking bar area.

panoramic porcelain

Dal Tile suggested their Panoramic Porcelain as I had used in the kitchen. It creates the high drama effect of slab but in a porcelain large format surface tile. I selected a black with white and bronze veins, the Onyx Galaxy CM14.

In contrast to the Onyx Galaxy I chose a natural stone slab to custom create my bar. We used the Dal Tile Calacatta Gold M475 and our fabricators created a waterfall finish for the ultimate luxury feel.

REGINA ANDREW home DECOR

The designers behind Regina Andrew believe that home decor should electrify a room and have a hearty dose of Rock n Roll. It makes absolute sense it’s one of my fave go to’s. I wanted a sexy yet masculine pendant for over my pool table and I chose the Otis Pendant in the largest size available and times by 3 for maximum effect! I scattered in some trays around the ballroom as chic accents.
